The Apple(s) Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree....

We are loving our local Farmer's Market this year.  The girls love "helping" me select fresh fruits and veggies.  But we all love the popcorn!!  Kettlecorn is my weakness!  I've also recently turned my little girls into popcorn monsters.  Last weekend they convinced me that they each needed their own bag.....their own bag that is almost as tall as they are.  My logic....what they don't eat, I can!

My little princesses.....

The girls LOVE to play dress up!  Anything sparkly, shiny or with jewels will definitely bring smiles to their faces.  They love to wear the tiara's that Aunt Paula bought them and will get upset when I make them take them off.  They were not at all impressed with the crowns provided by Burger King last night.  While I did manage to squeeze out a few smiles....I was continually reminded that these crowns had no "sparklies".

Dental Appointments.....

Last week the girls had their first dentist appointment.  Judge if you must....but there are several reasons why they haven't been before now.  Overall they both did great!  Alexis acted like she had been to the dentist a hundred times before and it was no big deal.  Addison was a little more skeptical and wasn't real excited about someone "washing her teeth" as she says.

One of the side effects of the girls being on oxygen for so long after birth is poor teeth.  I don't like it, but honestly if this is one of the few side effects we have, I'll take it.  Because I know this is going to be an issue, I have been researching pediatric dentists for quite awhile.  I wanted to make sure that the dentist was a comfortable, kid friendly place for my munchkins.  I can not tell you how much I LOVE the girls dentist office.  I love it so much that I wish they would see me as a patient!  I highly recommend Fishers Pediatric Dentistry for any one in the Indianapolis area looking for a dentist for their kiddos.    Everyone was so warm, friendly and patient with us.  They understood my apprehension regarding the girls first appointments, as well as they took the time to explain step by step to the girls what was happening.  They let the kids play with all the instruments and took the appointment at my girls own pace.  I didn't feel like we were rushed in and out.  And lets not forget about their super cool atmosphere.... When you first walk in the entrance, it's like walking onto the beach right off the jungle.  Addison shouted "this is awesome" a few times.  Here are the girls sitting in the waiting room:

They thought the cheetah was super cool!

I seriously can't say enough great things about this place.  Both kiddos got great reports from Dr. Katie and are cavity free!!  We were warned that we will probably need to start saving for braces.  UGH!  I didn't like to hear that, but Dr. Katie said that it is to be expected because of the oxygen at birth.  Again, no big deal....we just roll with the punches.  Here are a few more pictures:

Addison picking out her toothbrush.

I actually found it quite comical that both girls picked out the same toothbrush without knowing what the other had chosen.  They both went with a "Woody" from Toy Story brush.

Addison not quite sure.

Addison talking to Dr. Katie.

Addison getting her "teeth washed".  This was right before she freaked out and we had to hold her down to complete the task.

Addison all done.
Check out the cool background.....Seriously like being at the beach.  Complete with seashells on the floor and surf boards for dental chairs!

Alexis with Dr. Katie.

Such a pro.

Alexis waiting to get X-Rays.
We opted to do Addison's x-rays in six months for a few reasons.  1. She was already pretty worked up and we didn't want to upset her any more and 2.  This way we don't have to pay for two sets of x-rays at the same time.  The girls will take turns getting x-rays every 6 months.

Seriously, you would of never known it was her first visit.

After we finished at the dentist, I had several errands to run, including a trip to the pet store to get food for Jynxie, our cat.  The girls were excited to check out all the animals.

Addison decided she wants the snake in this cage.  You can kind of see it in the back corner.

And Alexis screamed at the top of her lungs in the middle of the store how she "needs" this chameleon.

Luckily they were satisfied with my response that Jynxie wouldn't get along with either of these animals.  These girls crack me up!  I couldn't love them more!!

Out of the mouths of babes....

Just a quick post with some things I don't want to forget...

  • A few days ago, Alexis was getting ready to flip over the back of the couch.  She knows better but likes to do it anyway.  I yelled "HEY" across the kitchen.  She looks up at me and says with the straightest face and responds with...."hay's for horses".  So hard not to laugh!

  • Another evening a few days ago, the girls were sitting in their highchairs (which are very quickly becoming too small for them) eating dinner.  Jynxie our cat, was playing with one of the girls silly bands.  You know those crazy little rubber bracelet things?  The cat loves to bat those things around on the floor.  The girls thought that it was hilarious that Jynx was playing with "their" bracelets.  I playfully looked at Jynxie and said "Jynxie what are you doing?"  Addison looks at me like I'm a complete and total idiot and says..."Jynxie can't talk".  It was like she was saying why the heck are you asking the cat a question when she can't answer you back.

  • Several weeks ago we were shopping at Wal-Mart.  I probably need to back up a little bit and give you some background information.  One evening I had put on my facial mask while the girls were still up.  I typically do this after they go to bed.  Addison screamed bloody murder because I had a "purple face".  I immediately washed it off.  The new Hulk movie has also recently been released on DVD, so there are a lot of Hulk displays in the stores and commercials on tv.  Whenever the girls see the Hulk, they call him "Green Face".  So back to the Wal-Mart story......We get in line to check out at Wal-Mart when Alexis yells (very loudly)......."Hey Mom, Look Black Face".  I was mortified!!!

  • The girls are going through this horrible biting phase AGAIN!  I thought we had previously nipped this in the bud, but it's back.  Addison bit Alexis for no apparent reason the other night.  She looked at me after she did it and said, "I get a time out".  She walked right over to the corner and sat down.  We have since tightened up the time out guidelines.  They are now required to stand and put their nose in the corner, where as previously they were allowed to sit and wait out their three minute penalty.  I received this text message picture very early at work today....apparently Alexis was in trouble just minutes after getting out of bed.  She hadn't even completely changed from her pj's to regular clothes yet.

Strawberry picking.....

This past weekend (Sunday, June 3rd) we decided to take the girls to a local farm to go strawberry picking.  It was a beautiful day, in the mid 70's, and we didn't want to waste such a gorgeous day inside.  The girls had a blast.  Alexis picked the smallest strawberries she could find and Addison was on the prowl for the largest ones.  As we were leaving, and paying by the pound for our berries.....I told Terry that it was a good thing they didn't weigh the girls before and after picking.  I know Addison ate 2-3 berries for every one she put in our box.  Here are a few pictures:

Addison thought throwing the hay at her sister was quite fun.

After about an hour in the patch, Addison got tired.  She picked a spot and just started chowing down.

Alexis was just content to go off on her own.  She kept saying she was looking for the "bestest stawberries" she could find.
**********

That evening I was able to make 8 jars of strawberry jelly and we still had berries left over.  We really did get a lot of berries for less than $10.  I'm not a baker/cook by any means, so I was excited to find a recipe for strawberry jam made in the bread maker.  So easy and so yummy!

When Gramma comes.....Memorial Day Weekend 2012

This Memorial weekend we celebrated with a visit from Gramma.  The girls are in love with Gramma and were very sad to see her go.  It was extremely hot here that weekend.  Here's some of the fun things the girls did with Gamma....

We played in the new swimming pool.  Which turned into seeing how much water they could drink from the "fountains".

Addison picked up all the pine cones in the back yard.

Alexis showed off her dancing skills.

We played with the hose....which again turned into seeing how much water they each could drink.

Alexis stole Gramma shoes on more than one occasion.

They enjoyed numerous stories read by Gramma.

We played in the sprinkler....ALOT!

We color.  (We also proudly wear our tie dyed shirts Aunt Sandy & Uncle Mike made for us).

And we eat messy treats that Gramma buys for us!!  Alexis is obviously a little more conservative when it comes to getting messy than Addison is.

Over all (minus the heat) we had a fun weekend!!!
