Goofin Around....

About a week ago, the girls and I made what I had planned on being a quick stop at Target.  Two hours later we were back home.  The girls and I spent over an hour goofing around and playing in the Halloween aisle.  I love these cheese balls more than life itself!!!  The apple definitely doesn't fall far from the tree in these photos!!

Tooth Fairy Time!!!!

On Thursday, September 18th, 2014 Alexis lost her first tooth!  It had been wiggling for several days at this point.  She came in my bathroom while I was getting ready for work.  She asked me to look at it and tell her how long I thought it would be before it fell out.  The tooth was barely hanging on.  I told her it would be really soon!  She went downstairs, ate breakfast and came back up to talk to me.  She asked me about it again.  I wiggled it myself and it fell out right into my hand!!  Of course, this all happened about ten minutes before we needed to be getting on the bus.  The small amount of blood kind of freaked her out a bit.  We went downstairs and gargled some salt water.  After about three mouthfuls of salt water the bleeding stopped and we went outside to catch the bus.  She couldn't wait to tell all her friends, her teacher, the bus driver and anyone who would listen about her missing tooth.  She was so excited!  I did feel super bad for Addison, because you could tell she was super envious of her sister.  We just kept reassuring her that eventually her teeth will fall out too.
Waiting for the bus!

For real....How is there not a parent tooth fairy reminder app yet????  I had Siri remind me so I didn't forget.

As soon as that tooth started wiggling, I went on a hunt for a tooth pillow.  This one had an adorable pink ribbon on it.  The girls (all by themselves) decided that the ribbon was so that you could hang the pillow on the door.  By hanging the pillow the tooth fairy would not disturb you and potentially wake you up.   I had no qualms with that idea!!

Ignore the bed head....but this is my little peanut checking out what the tooth fairy left for her.

The tooth fairy left her a certificate covered in fairy dust (aka glitter spray paint).

She also got a crisp $2 bill which she proceeded to ask me if it was fake money.  They are learning about money at school and for obvious reasons (which she didn't understand) she hasn't learnt about a $2 bill yet.

The tooth fairy also left two gold chocolate coins and a note for Alexis asking her to share one chocolate coin with her sister Addison.  She was happy to oblige.
They each also got a coloring book (which I printed online) full of pictures of the toothfairy and helpful hints about brushing regularly.
Alexis has been hysterical through this whole process.  She has had to call everyone we know and tell them about her new "pumpkin face" (because I was teasing her about looking like a jack-o-latern).

Apple picking 2014....

Last Friday, September 12th, 2014 the girls had a half day of school.   I decided to take a personal day from work and spend some time with my kiddos.
We've been talking for a few weeks about going apple picking again.  The weather was perfect and I was hoping to beat the weekend crowd by going during the week.
It was one of those perfect days with my kiddos that I just didn't want to end!!

We also took a hayride through the grounds.  Alexis was covered in hay when we were finished.

I'm not quite sure what Addison is doing in the above picture, but I just love it!

Alexis was pretty excited that she was actually tall enough to reach most of the trees this year!

Addison did spend more time eating apples than picking them.  She ate 3 good sized apples while we were there.

Love these cheese balls!!!

They thought showing me their muscles, while on top of the hay stack was pretty funny.

When we got home we had to try out my new apple peeler/corer/slicer.

Very cool little gadget!  So easy that the girls peeled all the apples needed for our large batch of applesauce.

No, I don't usually let my kids sit on my kitchen island, but sometimes you gotta make exceptions!

Seriously the best (and easiest) applesauce ever!!!  We've been making applesauce in the crock-pot for a few years now.  So easy and the kiddos LOVE it!!

More notes to myself....

Things seem to be popping up like crazy lately that I say to myself...."I need to write that down".

Here are just a few more notes to myself....

When I got home from work one day last week, Addison asked me if I had Luke from her classroom's phone number.  Not her cousin Luke, but Luke from her class.  I asked her why.  She told me that he is her boyfriend now and she wants to call him and ask him what his favorite color is so that she can draw him a picture to take to school tomorrow.

As I type this, Luke is still her boyfriend.  I DO NOT like this!!!  :-)  This shocks me a little, that my shy, quiet Addison is the first to have a boyfriend.

Friday evening, while I was cleaning up the kitchen Alexis said "hey mom, my tooth is wiggly".  I responded with "no it isn't".

When we took the girls to the dentist back in July the dentist said she could see the adult teeth on the x-rays but didn't anticipate any baby teeth to be lost for at least 8-12 months.  Hence the reason, I shrugged off her declaration.

Alexis says "yes it is!!!"......pretty adamantly I might add.   I again respond with, "I doubt it honey".  She gets right in my face and says "look mom I'm serious".   Sure enough it really is loose!!  Now Addison is trying to pull on hers.

We've had conversations about how the tooth fairy will know if you have been pulling on your teeth.

I anticipate posting about our first lost tooth within a week!  :-)

Notes to myself....

Just a quick update to document somethings I want to remember....

The second week of school Addison was having some anxiety issues and was refusing to go to school.  Literally a full on melt down every morning.  The first day she told me she didn't want to go to school because she got in trouble and had to move her behavior clip from green to red.  After confirming with the teacher this was not true.

Day two of meltdowns, Addison told me she didn't want to go to school because all the boys would steal her lunch and then she would be starving all day long.  Also, not true!

Luckily Addison's teacher has been amazing with helping me work with her through this transition.  This is a photo that she emailed telling me that Addison was all smiles when she got off the bus.  You can obviously tell that she had been crying.

During one of her meltdowns at our front door, while waiting for the bus....Alexis told her that she needed to "suck it up and deal".  I couldn't help but laugh.  We've now started our own reward system at home that includes: no crying about going to school, no arguing about getting your shoes on in the morning, no whining about getting your hair done and going to bed without issues.  It seems to be working well.....knock on wood, we haven't had a crying spell in over a week!
Last week Addison was one of the two students of the week...
Alexis seems to have adjusted a little easier to kindergarten.  She absolutely loves going to school.  She wakes up every morning before it's time to get up.  She is constantly asking how many minutes until the bus comes.  She is just super cheerful every morning!  I have no idea where she gets that from!!!
Alexis' class has four children who do not speak English.  Alexis seems to have taking a liking to a boy named Daniel.  Daniel speaks primarily Spanish.  It's been very interesting to hear her talk about him and the Spanish words that she has picked up already.
According to Alexis her greatest accomplishment in kindergarten thus far, is mastering how to swing herself on the swings at recess.  We've been trying to teach both girls how to do this for awhile.  Two weeks of school and she is a pro!  Addison can almost do it, she just needs a few quick pushes to get started.
All and all, I think both girls are doing well with the adjustment.  It's been quite a bit of a change for all of us!!
